1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember your preferences or understand how you use it. Some cookies are essential for the website to function; others are optional and require your consent.

2. How we use cookies

We use a minimal set of cookies on magicwand.site. We do not use advertising, tracking, or social media cookies.

3. Cookies we set

Cookie nameTypePurposeDuration
cookie-consentEssentialStores your cookie consent preference (“accepted” or “rejected”) so we don’t ask again on every visitUntil you clear browser storage
themeEssentialRemembers your dark/light mode preferenceUntil you clear browser storage
Google Analytics cookies (e.g. _ga, _ga_*)Analytics (optional)Helps us understand how visitors use the site — pages visited, session duration, referral source. IP addresses are anonymised. No personal profile is built.Up to 14 months (set by Google)

The cookie-consent and theme cookies are stored in your browser’s localStorage rather than as HTTP cookies. They do not leave your device and are not transmitted to our servers.

4. Third-party cookies

If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics will set its own cookies on your device. These are governed by Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

We have enabled IP anonymisation in our Google Analytics configuration, which means Google truncates your IP address before any processing.

5. Your choices

Via our cookie banner

When you first visit the site, a banner appears at the bottom of the page. You can:

  • Accept all — enables Google Analytics
  • Reject — analytics are not loaded; only essential localStorage items are used

Changing your preference

To change a previous choice, clear the cookie-consent entry from your browser’s localStorage:

  1. Open your browser’s Developer Tools (F12 or right-click → Inspect)
  2. Go to ApplicationLocal Storage → your site URL
  3. Delete the cookie-consent entry
  4. Refresh the page — the banner will reappear

Via your browser

You can also manage or block cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking all cookies may affect site functionality (e.g. the theme toggle will not remember your preference).

6. More information

For information on how we handle your personal data more broadly, see our Privacy Policy. For questions about our use of cookies, contact hello@magicwand.site.
